Speaking to reporters a few days ago, President-elect Donald Trump advised people not to use computers for important information and instead use couriers:
“It’s very important, if you have something really important, write it out and have it delivered by courier, the old-fashioned way, because I’ll tell you what, no computer is safe. I don’t care what they say, no computer is safe. I have a boy who’s 10 years old; he can do anything with a computer. You want something to really go without detection, write it out and have it sent by courier.”
Today Trump announced that his White House will be using messenger pigeons (sometimes also called pigeon post or war pigeons) for his most important communications:
“Folks, I will make all of my White House communication safe, very, very safe. I will achieve that by using messenger pigeons for all of my big league government business and dealmaking.
And messenger pigeons are very safe – no major messenger pigeon has been hacked in the last 10 years. This proves, folks, that messenger pigeons are very safe.
I have the best messenger pigeons in the world and it is a disaster that our great pigeons have been completely neglected by the Obama administration.
I have to admit, folks, that messenger pigeons might not solve all of our secure communication problems. Even best of my pigeons – and I have the best pigeons in the world – won’t be able to fly from Washington to Moscow.
So I will need to think of something else. I was thinking maybe it would be good to start using telegraph again.”
